Lakes Passage

locate via mapquest
Description

Lakes Passage - The lakes passage is path of shallow water running from Key West to Boca Grande Key. It will take you 12 miles west and over halfway to the Marquesas in shallow usually calm water. If you are running to the Marquesas or further west it will usually cut some time and add some comfort to your trip if there is any wind blowing. The controlling depth averages around 4 feet and it pays to be cautious during low tide. The lakes passage starts west of Key West on the west side of the northwest channel and snakes around in as S shape. It ends at Boca Grande Key and it is marked the whole way.
